I am in pure nesting mode lately.
One baby project that I have been wanting to make is a ruffle bum onsie.
One baby project that I have been wanting to make is a ruffle bum onsie.
If you want to know how I did it, here are the steps that I took:
Step 1: Mark 3 lines of where you want the ruffles to be placed. It is hard to see in this picture, but i just marked 3 lines...the middle one being at the top of the bum flap.
Step 1: Mark 3 lines of where you want the ruffles to be placed. It is hard to see in this picture, but i just marked 3 lines...the middle one being at the top of the bum flap.
Step 2: Cut 3 strips of your choice of fabric out. I cut them a little longer than double the width of the onsie. They also need to be 2.5 to 3 inches wide. I wish that I had don't 3 inches, but I did 2.5 inches.
Example..I was using a 0-3 month onsie which was about 7 inches wide. My 3 strips were 16 inches in length.
Step 3: Fold each side of the strip 1/4 " and hem. One of the sides you will fold again 1/4 " and hem a second time.
Step 5: Pin your strip right at the top line that you already marked. As you pin it across the line, fold back to create a ruffle over and over again (as seen below). You will sew the right side down and the double hem up facing the top of the onsie.
Step 7: Fold over the the ruffle and stitch the ruffle so again so that it folds down into the correct position.
Step 9: On the edges of the ruffles the last thing that I did was sew the width of the ruffles down along the edges. This will help the ruffles stay down.
