Monogram Onsie

I wanted to add a monogram on the front of my ruffle onsie so that it would add a little color and fun in the front as well.

Here is how I did it.

First I cut out a pink circle and the letter 'L'. Then I pinned the 'L' onto the center of the circle.

Then I sewed the two together around the edges of the L.

Next I pinned the circle into the center of the onsie. Then sew the circle onto the onsie.

And here is the final result...

I love it....'L' is for Lilly. Hopefully she makes her debut in the next couple of days.

Ruffle Onsie Tutorial

I am in pure nesting mode lately.

One baby project that I have been wanting to make is a ruffle bum onsie.

If you want to know how I did it, here are the steps that I took:

Step 1: Mark 3 lines of where you want the ruffles to be placed. It is hard to see in this picture, but i just marked 3 lines...the middle one being at the top of the bum flap.

Step 2: Cut 3 strips of your choice of fabric out. I cut them a little longer than double the width of the onsie. They also need to be 2.5 to 3 inches wide. I wish that I had don't 3 inches, but I did 2.5 inches.

Example..I was using a 0-3 month onsie which was about 7 inches wide. My 3 strips were 16 inches in length.

Step 3: Fold each side of the strip 1/4 " and hem. One of the sides you will fold again 1/4 " and hem a second time.

Step 4: Here are my 3 strips hemmed are ready to ruffle.

Step 5: Pin your strip right at the top line that you already marked. As you pin it across the line, fold back to create a ruffle over and over again (as seen below). You will sew the right side down and the double hem up facing the top of the onsie.
Step 6: Single stitch the ruffle onto your top line.
Step 7: Fold over the the ruffle and stitch the ruffle so again so that it folds down into the correct position.
Step 8: You will repeat steps 5-7 again for the other 2 ruffles.

Step 9: On the edges of the ruffles the last thing that I did was sew the width of the ruffles down along the edges. This will help the ruffles stay down.
Step 10: Enjoy your finished project!

Bustle Skirt.

I have been wanting to make the girls matching skirts for springtime.

I say this bustle skirt on studio 5's $5 craft challenge (it cost me more because I chose a more expensive fabric).

Let me remind you that I have never, I mean NEVER, sewn a piece of clothing before in my life.

But this week, as I was on bed rest, I wanted a challenge.

This is what I ended up with...

Emma sure loves it.

I finished the baby one too, but I don't have my baby yet to show it off, so in the next week or two when baby makes her way to earth I will show you all how they both look together.

The SAM Project.

A couple of years ago a friend in our ward lost her 18 month old little boy due to complications from Mitochondrial Disease. In order to honor little Samual she started a service project that runs this time of year. Each year they ask for donations and collect blankets for the Patients at Primary Children's Medical Center and deliver them on or around March 26th (the day of his passing).

I know that many of you are ex-ward members of this sweet family and always ask about helping with the project, so I figured that I would post all of the information here so that you anyone could participate if they wanted to. This is something that we did for Family Home Evening Last year and my kids love helping.

The ironic thing was that a couple of weeks after giving our friend the blankets that we made, my son unexpectedly was admitted to Primary Children's for a few days. I can attest that these blankets really do make a difference in the lives of these little children.

When: All Blankets should be done and turned in to Laura McCluskey by March 20th. (If any of you want to email me when you are done and mail them to me, I would love to get them to her by this date).

Blanket Specifications (Primary Children's Rules):

Fleece Blankets: 72" x 60" (2 yards)

Quilts: 72" x 90" , 54" x 80" and 45" x 60" ( no all red flannel)

Quilted or tied quilts are both okay.

Receiving Blankets 36" x 36"

These are only specifications/recommendations, but don't have to be exactly followed.

Looking Ahead

After discovering this Christmas that my little girl is a girly girl and loves make up and getting beautified, I keep looking at teen rooms and some ideas for her room when we get a house.

I saw this today and thought...that would be perfect.

I love this idea in a small home for a computer area too. If I was in this small condo any longer I might have used this in my dining room to hide my computer area.
